"But an avalanche sealed Dr. Wheelo inside an impenetrable wall of ice and snow. It was as if heaven itself was jealous of Dr. Wheelo's power and genius and tried to seal his fate inside a frozen tomb."
Doctor Cochin in Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest

Doctor Cochin (ドクター コーチン, Dokutā Kōchin; FUNimation "Dr. Kochin") is Doctor Uiro's assistant and a self-professed expert in biotechnology.

Appearance

Cochin appears as a very elderly man wearing a white lab coat and has an odd-shaped head and male-pattern baldness. Even though he appears old and harmless, Kochin is actually well-equipped for fighting: his hand transform into a Machine Gun, while his cane, which bears a stylized headpiece of Shen Long, hurls energy blasts.

Biography

Films

Cochin's true form is revealed as he is falling.

Cochin appeared in Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest. He was the one who created the three Bio-Men: Kishime, Misokatsun, and Ibifurya. He gathered the Dragon Balls and used his wish to free Uiro from his icy prison in the Tsumisumbri Mountains after fifty years. He spent the remainder of his time inside Doctor Uiro's Fortress commanding the actions of the Bio-Warriors from the control room. The first evidence that Cochin was more than he seemed came when he attempted to kill Kuririn. He lifted his arm and the skin on his hand ripped away, revealing a mechanical hand underneath, which then transformed into a rotating Machine Gun.

His gunfire damaged some of the equipment powering the force field which held Bulma Brief prisoner, freeing her, but also leaving her open to attack. As Cochin took aim, Turtle Hermit attacked him and knocked his gun-arm off by unknown means. (Literally) disarmed, Cochin stood back and watched in shock as Uiro began wrenching his giant mechanical body free from the laboratory wall. As he stepped out onto the laboratory platform, Uiro's giant foot accidentally knocked Cochin off the edge and he fell down the main shaft.

As he fell, his body got too close to the glowing dais which supported the laboratory above and bolts of electricity arced out and struck Cochin's body, causing his clothing and skin to burn away and revealing a robot underneath. He muttered Uiro's name in a broken, monotone voice before exploding in midair.

Trivia

  • Much of Cochin's past is unexplained. All that is known is that he is Uiro's assistant and that he is an Artificial Human. It is unknown if he was originally a Human and simply turned himself into an Artificial Human to prolong his life or if he was a creation of Uiro.
  • The events surrounding his death are also unexplained. Precisely why the dais glowed like that and shot out bolts of electricity when the falling Cochin drifted too close is never explained.
  • The fact that the handle of his cane is designed to resemble Shen Long hints at a fifty-year obsession with the Dragon Balls.
