Geneon Universal Entertainment Japan (ジェネオン ユニバーサル エンターテイメント ジャパン, Jeneon Yunibāsaru Entāteimento Japan) (formerly known as Pioneer LDC and then Geneon Entertainment) is a Japanese music, anime, and home entertainment production and distribution enterprise headquartered in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Geneon Entertainment has been involved in the production and distribution of several anime in Japan, such as Dragon Ball. Geneon's North American branch, Geneon USA, (formerly known as Pioneer Entertainment) specialized in translating and distributing anime and related merchandise, such as soundtracks across the region.

History

Geneon is a portmanteau of the English words generate and eon.

On November 12, 2008, most of Geneon Entertainment was sold to NBC Universal's Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPI). On February 1, 2009, Geneon Entertainment was merged with Universal Pictures International Entertainment's Universal Pictures Japan into Geneon Universal Entertainment Japan.
