The Large Genki Dama (特大 元気 玉, Tokudai Genki Dama; FUNimation "Large Spirit Bomb"; Literally meaning "Oversized Innate Spirit Ball") is a larger and more powerful version of the Genki Dama and used by Son Goku. Like the original Genki Dama, Goku raises his hands in the air and gathers energy from surrounding life forms to form the attack. However, instead of storing the energy in his body and forming it in his hand, Goku stores the energy in the form of a giant whitish-blue energy sphere in the sky. Once it is ready, Goku throws the attack down at the opponent, inflicting a huge amount of damage.
Goku used this attack in his battle against Freeza in his Final Form on Planet Namek. Having run out of options as to how to defeat Frieza, Goku decided to use the Genki Dama. Though he was able to collect some energy from remaining living beings of Planet Namek and some nearby planets, Frieza eventually discovered what Goku was doing and attempted to kill him. However, Piccolo saved Goku at the last second and he, Krillin, and Son Gohan stalled Frieza while Goku kept gathering energy. After some time, the Large Genki Dama was finally completed and Goku launched the attack against Frieza, seemingly putting an end to the tyrant. However, the attack was not strong enough and Frieza survived, heavily injured.
Though Large Spirit Bomb was originally named Spirit Bomb in previous video games, it was officially given its own name in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast. In this game, it is one of Goku's Ultimate Blasts.
[edit] Trivia
- Cell claimed he could perform a Genki Dama, yet he does not use the move during the rest of the series. However, in the Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi series, Super Perfect Cell's Ulimate Blast is a Spirit Bomb that looks similar to the Large Spirit Bomb.
