Goku taking his Weighted Clothing off before his fight against Raditz.

Weighted Clothing is a type of clothing that is has built-in weights to make them heavier than normal clothing.

History

Weighted Clothing was used by several warriors throughout the series. Son Goku used weights at the end of Dragon Ball in the 23rd Tenkaichi Tournament and during the battle against Raditz. The weaker Z Warriors used weights to train for the arrival of the Saiyans at Kami's place. Finally, Pikkon demonstrated his use of weights during the Other World Tournament against Goku.

Weighted Clothing typically suppressed 20-25% of a warrior's full power. The mass of the weights could be increased to gain more power. Weighted Clothing generated the same results as immense gravity training. Weighted Clothing was more versatile though because you could use Weighted Clothing to gain immense power on even low-gravity planets. More importantly, Weighted Clothing could be used alongside gravity training, as when Piccolo trained on North Kaio's World and in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. The latter was especially effective, as Piccolo nearly tripled his fighting power, surpassing Semi-Perfect Cell.

As time went on, Weighted Clothing became less significant in battles. Goku never even bothered to take his weights off during his stalemate battle against Perfect Cell.

The original use of Weighted Clothing was revealed in the battle between Goku and Tenshinhan in the 23rd Tenkaichi Tournament when Goku explained that Kami had him use them as part of his training at the Heavenly Realm. Having shed his burden, Goku then proceeded to "warm up" through a series of whirlwind speed attacks, providing a pleasant show for the crowd. Despite being the most humorous fight involving weights, it was most certainly not the battle in which the removal of the clothes make a significant difference.

The battle which held the title of "most obvious difference" was between Piccolo and Freeza's second form. After the assimilation of Nail, Piccolo was fighting evenly against Freeza. When he took off his weights, Piccolo became almost 25% stronger and dominated Freeza's second form, a feat that no other warrior had ever done before (Saiyan, Namekian, or otherwise). This is what pushed Freeza to display his previously unseen third form.

Video games

Weighted Clothing was incorporated into Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury in the form of armbands and boots. In keeping with their use in the manga/anime, wearing them slowed down the character, but increased the experience obtained by defeating enemies.

The 1 Ton Boots and 1 Ton Armbands could be found in the Next World, while heavier armbands and boots would drop from defeated enemies. Though the heaviest ones (Kiloton Armbands and Kiloton Boots) could be bought on Plant Kaioshin. The heavier the armbands/boots, the higher the level the characters had to be at to equip them.
