Black Star Shen Long (ブラック スター 神龍, Burakku Sutā Shinryū; FUNimation "Black Star Shenron"; Literally meaning "Black Star God Dragon") is an Eternal Dragon.

Biography[edit]

Dragon Ball GT[edit]

Black Star Shen Long was the third and final Eternal Dragon introduced in Dragon Ball. Like Shen Long and Polunga, he too could only be summoned using a particular set of Dragon Balls, the Black Star Dragon Balls.

Like the original incarnation of Shen Long, Black Star Shen Long was only capable of granting a single wish, however, his capabilities greatly outclassed those of his Eternal Dragon brothers. For instance, death wishes do not exceed Black Star Shen Long's power. For wishes that do not exceed the regular Shen Long's power (such as restoring someone's youth), the wish was still so powerful that only a second wish to Black Star Shen Long could permanently reverse it. After a wish had been granted by him, the Black Star Dragon Balls were catapulted throughout the galaxy rather than their respective planet, and a one-year countdown was issued for the host planet's destruction, which can only be undone if the Dragon Balls were returned to that planet within this time. In Dragon Ball GT, Black Star Shen Long was used to cause Son Goku's body to physically regress to childhood in a wish accidentally made by Pilaf. He was later summoned by Baby in "The Game After Life" where he was instructed to restore Planet Vegeta (renamed to "Planet Tuffle") and relocate it to Earth's solar system.

An interesting aspect of Black Star Shen Long was his size. While Shen Long and Polunga were both shown to be comparable in size to a large skyscraper, Black Star Shen Long was shown to be larger than each of these Eternal Dragons combined. As a size reference, while a coiled Shen Long had been shown as being roughly the size of Kami's Lookout. Black Star Shen Long on the other hand was so large that his head alone was roughly the size of the Lookout. Black Star Shen Long's appearance was also similar to that of a traditional Japanese dragon, while Shen Long bared a resemblance to a traditional Chinese dragon. Another interesting difference was that the Shen Long had his "whiskers" on the upper part (like a moustache) of his mouth, but Black Star Shen Long had whiskers on the lower part of his mouth (like a beard).
