The Fruit of the Enseiju (フルーツ の 円生樹, Furūtsu no Enseiju; FUNimation "Fruit of the Ensenji") grows on the Enseiju.

History

The Fruit of the Enseiju was the mystical fruit of Yama and guarded by two Ogres, Goz and Mez, in Hell. Anyone who ate this fruit would have their energy and physical might doubled. It would also restore a person's health and energy and prevent them from getting tired or needing nourishment for 3 months. Son Goku attempted to steal and eat some of this fruit, but was stopped by the Ogres. After defeating them in physical challenges, Goku was eventually successful in eating the fruit, granting him enough power to make up for the lost time of having to start at the beginning of the Serpentine Road again.

Trivia

  • The fruit is yet another connection between Dragon Ball and Journey to the West. In the Chinese epic, the handsome Monkey King (the character Goku is loosely based upon) steals the Jade Emperor's (administrator of Heaven) peaches. The peaches grant him immortality and long life, as did the Fruit of the Enseiju of Yama.
