A Farmer appeared in "The Peculiar Girl, Lunch".

Dragon Ball Z

Farmer (or his twin brother) holding a rifle.

Farmer noticed something falling from the sky to his field, so he drove there in a Chevrolet and was incapacitated very quickly. He had a gun that he used to shoot at Raditz, but the Saiyan caught the bullet and fired it back with a flick of his thumb, which hit Farmer and sent him flying into his truck. Farmer had a battle power of 5 (more than a calm Son Gohan, but much less than even the weakest Z Warrior).

Later in the anime, Farmer (or a random hunter who looked exactly like Farmer) could be seen in the forested mountains south of Metro North. Mistaking Doctor Gero for "a Deer", he fired off a slug from his gun. After asking Gero if he was okay, Gero blasted him straight into a nearby tree. This action did not seem to phase Farmer too much other than confusing him for a moment.

Later still (in the anime) during the Great Saiyaman Saga, a farmer can once again be seen on his farm moving hay from a pile to his Chevrolet. While this farmer looked like the original Farmer (and later hunter), it is unknown if they are the same person because this farmer's eyes and hair style are much different than the last two appearances. When Son Gohan (disguised as the Great Saiyaman) zoomed by in glee due to the news of his father returning to Planet Earth for the upcoming 25th Tenkaichi Tournament, the farmer was startled and simply fell over. This is the last we see of him in the series.

Death?

Farmer meeting his end in the manga.

The fate of Farmer somewhat varied. In both the manga and the anime, he did not get back up, implying that he had died. When Raditz returned to the crash site later, however, Farmer's body was missing from where it had fallen in front of his truck. This was especially obvious in the anime because Gohan hid under the truck and Raditz lifted it up and disintegrated it, allowing multiple shots of where the Farmer's corpse was clearly nowhere to be seen. (In addition, the censored English dub of the anime has him say, "That smarts." after falling down, implying his survival.) In the manga, Raditz did not destroy the truck, but Farmer's body was still absent from all shots featuring it (mostly in the background).

Since we never see Farmer again in the manga, there is a good chance he simply died and was never revived since any wishes that would revive a majority of any part of the Earth's population were reserved for specific victims ("Cell's victims" for example). It seems that he survived just fine in the anime, however, as he reappears at least two more times; once during each of the last two major arcs (the Cell Saga and the Majin Buu Saga).

Weapons

Farmer is commonly referred to by fans as "Farmer with shotgun". His weapon, however, is not a shotgun. It is in fact a lever-action rifle. This is demonstrated by the manner in which Farmer cocks the gun and also because it fires a bullet instead of birdshot or buckshot. In the anime, he refers to it as "my pea shooter". The gun he uses to shot Gero, while of the same model, is likely a different one, as in both the manga and anime his firearm is destroyed when it is hit by the bullet as it passes first through the rifle (snapping it in two) then Farmer (coming out his back) and finally his truck (popping open the roof and damaging the engine).

Trivia

  • Due to Farmer having a battle power of 5, many fans believe this to be the average battle power for a Human. This could be true as Future Trunks Brief's relaxed/suppressed battle power is stated to be 5.
