Famicom Jump: Hero Retsuden, released in Japan as ファミコン ジャンプ Hero Retsuden (ファミコン ジャンプ えいゆう れつでん, Famikon Janpu: Eiyū Retsuden; Literally meaning "Famicon Jump: Hero History") is a role-playing game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released only in Japan on February 15, 1989 and developed by Tose Software and published by Bandai.

Story

It consists of a main character wandering around and encountering many Weekly Shōnen Jump heroes as they try to save the world from an alliance of many of the most evil and powerful Weekly Shōnen Jump villains.

Gameplay

The game commemorates the 20th anniversary of Weekly Shōnen Jump. It brings together many of the long-running titles that had appeared in the magazine both of the past and present.

Characters

Playable

One of the main objects is to gather a selection of 16 notable hero characters in order to use them to fight against the enemy characters. The characters who can be collected are:

  • Ryo Saeba (City Hunter)
  • Arale Norimaki (Dr. Slump)
  • Pegasus Seiya (Saint Seiya)
  • Momotaro Tsurugi (Sakigake!! Otokojuku)
  • Bankichi Tokawa (Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daishō)
  • Reiki Kikoku (Goddo Saidā)
  • Joseph Joestar (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
  • Jouji Kanno (Dōberuman Deka)
  • Isamu (Kōya no Shōnen Isamu)
  • Tsubasa Oozora (Captain Tsubasa)
  • Tarou Yamashita (Kenritsu Umisora Kōkō Yakyūbuin Yamashita Tarō-kun)
  • Kyūichi Uno (Asutoro Kyū Dan)
  • Kinniku Suguru (Kinnikuman)

Of particular note, Momotaroh Tsurugi and Son Goku are the only playable characters who return in Famicom Jump II: Saikyō no 7 Nin. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure also has a playable character in the sequel as Jotaro Kujo replaces Joseph Joestar. Kankichi Ryotsu from Kochikame is a non-playable character in this game who become a playable character in the sequel.
