Dragon Ball Z Gaiden: Saiya-jin Zetsumetsu Keikaku (ドラゴン ボール ゼット 外伝 サイヤ人 絶滅 計画, Doragon Bōru Zetto Gaiden: Saiya-jin Zetsumetsu Keikaku), or Koshiki Visual Guide: Dragon Ball Z Gaiden: Saiya-jin Zetsumetsu Keikaku (公式 ビジュアル ガイド ドラゴン ボール ゼット 伝 サイヤ人 絶滅 計画, Kōshiki Bijuaru Michibi: Doragon Bōru Zetto Gaiden: Saiya-jin Zetsumetsu Keikaku), is the first Dragon Ball Z original video animation (OVA). It was originally released on two home video cassettes only in Japan on August 6, 1993 and September 6, 1993 between Warriors of the Dead and Tournament Begins. The OVA was included as an extra feature in the Dragon Box collection. The OVA has since been completely reconstructed, re-scripted, and re-edited for release in North America and Europe as Dragon Ball: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans and comes with every copy of Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2.[1]

Synopsis

Part 1

Before Hatchiyack's appearance in a powerful body.
The Ghost Warriors

Doctor Lychee was one of the only survivors of the Tsufruians, a race that once lived on Planet Plant before the coming of the Saiyans. The Saiyans not only massacred the entire Tsufurian race, but also stole their technology and conquered the planet and renamed it Planet Vegeta in honor of their king. Lychee managed to escape inside a capsule and found refuge on Planet Dark, a world at the end of the universe. His only wish was to eradicate the last remaining Saiyans.

To do this, Lychee put devices on Planet Earth that emitted Destron Gas capable of destroying all life. When Mister Popo found out that only a few hours were left until the planet's destruction, Son Goku, Son Gohan, Vegeta, Future Trunks Brief, and Piccolo rushed to destroy the evil devices that were located around Earth. They managed to destroy all but one that was protected by an impenetrable energy barrier, however, Freeza, Coola, Tullece, and Slugg appeared and engaged the heroes in individual fight. It was revealed by North Kaio that the villains were really Ghost Warriors, and would continually come back to life when killed unless defeated in the same way their lives were originally ended.

Part 2

Hatchiyack fighting against Goku.
Hachihyaku getting destroyed.
The Z Warriors returning to Earth.

The heroes tracked Lychee to Planet Dark and engaged him, discovering that his Ghost Warriors were generated by a machine named Hatchiyack, a super computer powered by the late Tuffle race's hatred of the Saiyans. It was also revealed that Lychee was a Ghost Warrior himself generated by Hatchiyack. When Vegeta vaporized Lychee, preventing him from re-materializing, Lychee's hatred caused Hatchiyack to exceed his limit. Hatchiyack next appeared as a robot whose power according to Goku was said to match, or perhaps even exceed, that of Broly. Hatchiyack devastated the heroes until the Saiyans, after having transformed into their Super Saiyan states, combined their powers together into one massive wave of energy, killing Hatchiyack and ending the threat of the Ghost Warriors.

Dragon Ball Z Gaiden: Saiyan Zetsumetsu Keikaku was released following the Nintendo Entertainment System video game of the same name in the form of two VHS cassettes dubbed as "Official Visual Guides" to the video game predecessor. Indeed, the OVA served as a sort of "animated walkthrough" of the video game. In 1994, footage from the OVA was turned into a digital comic (two video games entirely made of animated sequences in which the player's only task is to choose between several options to go to the next sequence) for the Bandai Playdia.

Confusion

At the time when the NES, OVA, and Playdia versions of the story were released, the outside world hardly knew anything due to news and technology not being as advanced as today. Once word of this title was first heard, many thought that the OVA was comprised of clips from the Playdia video games strung together to form a film.
