"Destroying Frieza was a feat a few could pull off. You may be a prestigious kill for us."
Sauzer in Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge

Sauzer (サウザー, Sauzā; FUNimation "Captain Salza") leads the Coola Armored Corps.

Sauzer's name is a pun on the Thousand Island salad dressing. In the FUNimation dub, his name is a reference to the Spanish word for Sauce, Salsa.

Biography

Sauzer was exceptionally handsome and was modeled somewhat similarly to Jheese or Zarbon. He had a special maneuver called the Salza Blade, an energy blade and a force field that resembled a lightsaber from the Star Wars franchise. He also had a technique where he fired a blast from each finger, the Scatter Finger Beam. He was from Planet Cooler No. 98 (formally Planet Brench). His homeworld had a very high gravity, which was why he had a small body, but also made him very fast and agile on other planets. He was so intelligent that he was capable of speaking 7,000 languages. He competed with Ginyu to be leader of the Armored Squad, and was one of the few people who knew Ginyu’s true form. He was from the same solar system as Jheese, which had two suns. His name comes from the Thousand Island salad dressing and his homeworld of Brench is named for French dressing.[2]

Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge

Sauzer appeared in Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge. He successfully took down Son Gohan and Kuririn, but after his comrades Naise and Dore were executed by Piccolo, he had to fight against the Namekian alone. Sauzer decided to attack Piccolo with his Salza Blade technique, but the Namekian quickly gained advantage over him. Luckily for Salza, Coola showed up and defeated Piccolo and ordered Sauzer to go after Gohan. Sauzer followed Gohan and destroyed the bag containing the Senzu. He then fought against Kuririn and Gohan and defeated them with ease. When Son Goku had recovered from his injuries and witnessed Coola blasting Piccolo, Sauzer punched him in the face, but Goku did not even move. Using only his energy, he sent Sauzer crashing against a mountain. After Cooler was defeated, however, Sauzer emerged from the rubble, ready to exterminate what remained of the battle-weary Goku, Gohan, and Kuririn. Unfortunately for him, Piccolo shot a Special Beam Cannon clean through him, thus killing him.

Trivia

  • Despite his name being Salza in the FUNimation dub, the attack Cooler uses in the Budokai video game series and Shin Budokai video game series, the Salza Blade – Salza's ultimate attack – is named the Sauzer Blade, Sauzer being his name in the Japanese dub.
  • Salza's special maneuver, the Salza Blade, is similar to Vegetto's energy blade, which appears later in the series. He also has a technique similar to Vegito's Banshee Blast where he fires a blast from each finger.
  • The Salza Blade makes an appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 and Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World as one of Cooler's special attacks despite it never being used by him. It is also referred to as by Japanese name, the Sauzer Blade.
  • It is stated in the Budokai Tenkaichi video game series that Salza is of the same race as Jheese and has a rivalry with Ginyu.
  • In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, his voice is slightly different than in his film appearance. In the film, he was given a high-pitched French accent, whereas in Budokai Tenkaichi 2 he sounded slightly similar to Vegeta (albeit with an alien voice filter).
  • Salza is said to be from Planet Brench. His homeworld is known to have a very high gravity, which is why he has a lean body and is very fast and agile on other planets.
  • The color of Salza's armor and spandex has slightly changed in Fusion Reborn from purple and yellow to fully yellow.
  • Salza has special dialogue when fighting against members of the Ginyu Force in Budokai Tenkaichi 3. If he fights against Ghurd, Ghurd says, "This time, I'm going to annihilate you!", hinting that they have had a previous encounter. If he fights against Jheese, Jheese says, "We're going to settle this once and for all!", while Salza replies, "It's over for you!".
