From Dragon Ball Wiki, the ''Dragon Ball'' encyclopedia

Icarus is a young purple dragon who is one of Gohan's closest animal friends. He is the only non-supernatural dragon to appear in the Dragon Ball series.

[edit] Overview

Icarus and Gohan in the Garlic Jr. Saga.

Icarus and Gohan first meet in the third Dragon Ball Z movie, The Tree of Might, when Gohan saved him from being smashed by a falling tree. Later, when Shenron is summoned to restore the forest back to normal, Icarus is scared and attacks him. He also later calmed Gohan down even after being turned into his Great Ape form by Turles. He is then blasted away by Turles which infuriates Great Ape Gohan.

In the Garlic Jr. Saga, he caught wind of the Black Water Mist's arrival and manages to find a cave and blocks the entrance to save Gohan from the Mist. Icarus later saves Maron after she is almost killed by the infected Bulma and Chi-Chi.

Icarus saves Gohan from the Black Water Mist.

He also appears in the final episode of the Trunks Saga, Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, and Cooler's Revenge. He did not appear again after this, although he is mentioned during the Great Saiyaman Saga when Goten is playing with a dinosaur, and Gohan says that the dinosaur reminds him of Icarus.

[edit] Trivia

  • Icarus never appears in the original manga, and its appearances in the anime are all during anime-only filler sequences.
  • Though there are notable appearances of Icarus in movie 3, 4 and 5, he suddenly disappears from the scene after the fifth movie and is never talked about after that.
  • Icarus played a very significant role in Cooler's Revenge. He helped Gohan bring Senzu Beans from Korin Tower which Goku needed to survive after being beaten by Cooler and his henchmen.
  • Icarus is the name of a boy in a famous story from Greek mythology. Icarus' father, Daedalus, constructed wax wings so that Icarus could fly. One day Icarus flew too close to the sun and the wings melted, causing him to fall to his death in the ocean.
