Summary

Piccolo looking upon Nail's broken form

Frieza has arrived on the scene with Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin and Dende. He is impressed at the apparent demise of the Ginyu Force. He is anxious to squash Vegeta's rebellion, and kill the assembled warriors for ruining his shot at immortality. He begins to power up, to the horror of Krillin and Gohan.

Piccolo is on his way in Frieza's direction. But he is interrupted by sensing somebody dying nearby. He investigates, and finds Nail. Nail recognizes Piccolo, glad the others got their wishes granted. Nail senses that Piccolo is incomplete, as he is split with Kami. Wanting Piccolo to have every advantage against Frieza, he offers to fuse with Piccolo, promising his power will be increased many times over. Piccolo is reluctant.

Meanwhile, Frieza continues to power up, causing an earthquake. Goku, who is still is in the Rejuvenation Tank on Frieza's ship, senses Frieza's power.

Nail rushes to convince Piccolo to fuse with him, guaranteeing Piccolo can maintain his identity after the fusion. Sensing Frieza's growing power, Piccolo finally relents, and places his hand on Nail's arm. Nail begins to glow, then suddenly disappears with an explosion of light, his power and identity absorbed into Piccolo's body. Piccolo wonders in the incredible increase of power from his fusion with Nail. With a new confidence, he rushes off to confront Frieza.

Frieza has completed powering up. While Krillin and Gohan are frozen in fear, Vegeta stands aloof, unimpressed. Frieza begins firing ki blasts at Vegeta, who dodges each one while the others run for cover. Krillin and Gohan decide to attempt a sneak attack, but are easily pushed back by Frieza. His last blast is intercepted by Vegeta and knocked away fairly easily.

Vegeta is confident that he, Gohan and Krillin can defeat Frieza. He says their power is increasing with every attack, especially Gohan's due to his still-untapped Saiyan power. Vegeta then claims that he himself is on the verge of becoming a Super Saiyan.

Frieza and Vegeta putting up an intense but equal fight

Enraged at the boasting, Frieza charges Vegeta. The two lock up and power up, matching ki for ki, digging up the ground around them with their growing power. Frieza is surprised that Vegeta can match power with him. His scouter explodes, and they release each other.

Gohan seems to think they may have a chance, but Krillin is ornery of Frieza's composure through the ordeal. Vegeta then challenges Frieza to transform, knowing he's in a weaker form to hold back his power. He reveals that Zarbon once told him about his ability.

Frieza accepts Vegeta's challenge, and powers up. The initial power-up causes him to grow just enough to break off his armor.

Trivia

  • Zarbon never told Vegeta about Frieza's transformation abilities in an on-screen scene.
