DBZK Episode 3

A Life or Death Battle! Goku and Piccolo's Desperate Attack! (命をかけた闘い! 悟空とピッコロ捨て身の猛攻 "Inochi o Kaketa Tatakai! Gokū to Pikkoro Sutemi no Mōkō") is the third episode Dragon Ball Z Kai. It is the third episode of the Vegeta Saga. It first aired on April 19, 2009, and aired in America on May 25, 2010.

Summary

Goku sacrifices himself to defeat his brother.

Goku and Piccolo are standing, prepared to fight Raditz. Before fighting, Raditz tells them that he tried to reason with Goku, but now he must pay. However, all Goku cares about is where his son is. Raditz tells them that Gohan is in his space pod. Soon after, Goku and Piccolo charge at Raditz to attack.

Raditz, however, evades the attacks from both of them with ease. When they try to attack from behind, he kicks both of them in their jaws, and they fly back. Both land on their feet, however, and attack a flying Raditz from behind. He evades them both again, and when they fly up to attack him, he blasts energy at them, narrowly missing Goku and hitting Piccolo in the arm. When Goku lands, Raditz appears right behind him and kicks him. However, Piccolo is missing an arm from the blast.

Piccolo then reveals to Goku that he has developed a new attack (originally for use on Goku), but it requires time to charge the attack, so Goku has to stall until he is ready. Goku fights Raditz, but still cannot get a hit on him. Raditz throws Goku, and Goku begins charging a Super Kamehameha. Raditz notes that both Goku's and Piccolo's power level is rising, Piccolo's to over 1200. Goku unleashes his attack, which is deflected by Raditz.

Raditz launches his attack at Goku, which hits him and knocks him to the ground. Raditz is about to punch Goku, when he notices the rising power level of Piccolo. Piccolo then launches his Special Beam Cannon, which only manages to hit his shoulder blade. Raditz is about to launch is own attack at Piccolo, when Goku grabs his tail. Raditz says he will leave the planet if he lets go of his tail, but when Goku lets go, Raditz knocks him on the ground and begins to crush his ribs, stating that he is a first-class warrior and he does what it takes to survive.

Just then, Raditz's space pod begins to crack, and Gohan flies out, obliterating the space pod. Goku urges him to run away, but he stays still. A frightened Raditz reads his power level at 1307. Gohan flies at Raditz, piercing the middle of his armor and doing him much damage. Raditz then reads his power level again, and it his dropped back down to 1. Raditz knocks Gohan out and goes to kill him, as he fears his power level. Just as Raditz is about to go in for the kill, Goku locks him in a full nelson, and urges Piccolo to use his attack. Raditz again tries to escape, but Goku isn't falling for it, and the attack hits both of them.

Raditz lies dying, astonished that Goku would sacrifice himself. Piccolo then tells him about the Dragon Balls, and Raditz reveals that the entire battle was transmitted to the other Saiyans, and that they will arrive in a year. Raditz dies, and Bulma, Roshi, and Krillin arrive. We then see the two Saiyans, a large, bald one, and a short one. They are going to come to Earth and use the Dragon Balls to wish for immortality. On Earth, Goku dies from his injuries in the company of his friends.

Gohan deals a damaging blow to Raditz.

Trivia

• Gohan's regular power level is 1.
• The mistake in Vegeta's color palette in Dragon Ball Z is corrected here.
• In the Toonzai broadcast version of this episode, Vegeta and Nappa aren't eating the body parts of the aliens, instead eating what appears to be some sort of plant.

"Goku and Piccolo are no match for Raditz in direct conflict, so they decide to have Goku distract Raditz while Piccolo gathers energy for an attack strong enough to defeat Raditz. This plan fails, as does Goku's attempt to stop Raditz by grabbing his tail. Raditz tortures Goku, causing Gohan to unleash his latent abilities in a fit of rage, and he strikes Raditz in the chest. Goku uses this opportunity to grab Raditz from behind, allowing Piccolo to use his "Special Beam Cannon" technique on Raditz, killing him as well as Goku.
