DB Episode 14

Synopsis

Yamucha and the rest of the gang surviving a plane crash.

Goku raiding Roshi's refrigerator.

Goku bringing Roshi a muscular woman.

Roshi being shocked that Goku brought a Mermaid.

Goku meeting his new friend and rival, Kuririn.

Son Goku stopped over at his house to grab essentials for his trip to the Kame House. Elsewhere, Yamucha's airplane crashed into a deep jungle due to being over the weight limit. Bulma, Yamucha, Oolong, and Puar bailed out right before the crash and were basically unharmed, but stuck in the middle of a deep jungle without any Hoi Poi Capsules. They did not know what to do and did not want to end up on the Other Side. After Bulma saw a Pterodactyl and heard a loud Human voice, she grabbed onto Yamucha and they all ran away. In another part of the jungle, a small boy kicked down trees and was the voice that Bulma had heard.

Goku soon arrived at the Kame House, but for some reason Muten Roshi did not answer his door. Goku jumped into the window and saw Roshi watching an exercise program on TV. Goku could not get Roshi's attention so he yelled into his ear. Goku explained he was there to train, but was hungry and needed food. Roshi pointed to the kitchen and told Goku to take something that he liked from the refrigerator. Goku then basically ate everything that was in the refrigerator, a week's worth of food.

Meanwhile, Bulma and the others were walking through a heated desert. After they checked the compass that Puar had turned into, they found that they were heading south when they were supposed to be heading north. Bulma then thought she saw a sandstorm, but it was that same little boy from the jungle whose running had caused the sand to blow. He later travelled by boat across the ocean.

Back at the Kame House, Goku told Roshi that he was ready for training. Roshi asked Goku to find him a girl first. Goku thought that was weird, but he agreed. After Roshi gave his guidelines, he realized that Goku’s tail was gone. Goku told Roshi that it had fallen off somewhere. He then left to find the girl. Roshi prepared and dressed in his finest clothes (suit and turtle shell). He then waited impatiently for Goku to get back. Goku arrived with a very large weight-lifting woman.

Roshi showed Goku the type of girl that he wanted. Goku understood and left to find her. He soon returned with a pretty girl. Roshi told Goku that he would now train him. When Roshi rushed over to her, he discovered that she was a Mermaid. He tried to use some of his “charm” only to get punched in the eye by the Mermaid, who then swam away. Roshi asked Goku to look for another girl, one that was not a Mermaid. Goku complained about having to find yet another girl, but Roshi said training was hard. Roshi was glad that Kame was not around to scold him. The small boy then arrived at the Kame House. Before the boat reached shore, he jumped onto Roshi’s island only to land headfirst. Goku helped him up and the boy said that he had come from a village far to the east, his name was Kuririn, and he wanted training from Roshi. Roshi told him that he did not accept pupils that easily, but Kuririn gave him a dirty magazine and Roshi said he would think about it. Kuririn told Goku that he did not think Goku was involved in martial arts, and Goku said he did like marshmallows. He then said Kuririn's head looked like one. Roshi asked Kuririn to help Goku find him a girl, but when Kuririn jumped onto the cloud he fell right through it. Roshi told Kuririn that only people with a pure heart could ride on the cloud, and Kuririn replied that he did have a pure heart and wanted to learn martial arts to meet girls. Roshi said that meant he had an impure heart, but Kuririn convinced Roshi by giving him a whole sack of dirty magazines.

• The Mermaid wears a shirt that has 'Pie Pie' written on it.
• This episode marks the debut of Kuririn.
• This is the first new episode of Dragon Ball dubbed since 1995.
• When Kuririn is handing Roshi dirty magazines, all of them are exactly the same in one shot, except for one that features males instead of females.
